Check-In Center
 |
 |
In December of 2002, in collaboration with the City Attorney’s office, Los Angeles Police Department and City Council, CCEA opened a safe, clean and secure location for persons without homes to store their personal possessions.
CCEA was informed by local social service agencies that there was a great need for personal storage for homeless individuals. Personal belongings were being left on the street as the individuals attended to their everyday needs such as looking for work, keeping a medical appointment, eating meals and taking care of personal business.
One of CCEA’s board members donated a 20,000 sq. ft. vacant building in the Industrial District, and a supplier donated 500 recyclable trash bins. This was the start of the Check-In Center, which created a solution to the problem. Located at 1215 E. 7th Street, CCEA provides staffing and utilities for the facility, which is used by over 500 people a day. It is open seven days a week from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. No hazardous materials, perishables or illegal materials are allowed.
The Center has served as a model for other communities and has won several achievement awards including the prestigious Helen Putnam Award. For more information please contact CCEA at 213-228-8484 or e-mail.
