The Central City East Association (CCEA) was formed in 1985 as a non-profit 501(c)6 business corporation. The organization's goal: to provide a voice and advocacy for the issues and concerns of property owners located on the east side of Downtown Los Angeles.
Since its inception, CCEA has provided members with zoning protection and local planning involvement. The organization actively participated in both the Central City East Task Force and the Downtown Strategic Plan. It petitioned for and secured the closing of several alleys in the area resulting in a reduction of crime, and easier, less expensive maintenance. In several cases closing alleys returned control of property access to the owners.
Early in 1998, following intensive efforts, CCEA formed two Business Improvement Districts (BID), the Los Angeles Downtown Industrial District (LADID) and the Toy District. The BIDs work to create a safer, more secure and cleaner environment for area residents, employees and visitors.
Central City East Association publishes a quarterly newsletter which covers both the Toy and LADID Districts. The newsletter focuses attention on the issues and concerns of the Central City East area, showcases a different business in each issue, and generally serves to better acquaint business and property owners with their neighbors.
CCEA currently engages in a number of special projects, all designed to strengthen the voice of its members, improve business, and provide a safer, more secure and cleaner environment in which to live and work.
